As the name suggests, crushed glass blasting media is typically made from recycled glass from bottles. It is typically combined with other types of media, including plastics, and even shot, to leave the surface of the metal smooth after the blasting process is completed.
The use of crushed glass is a more aggressive removal of paint, epoxy, vinyl, and other types of heavy or thick coatings on a wide range of alloys, metals, and components. The sharp, irregular size of the crushed glass blasting media combined with the irregular edges offers a very effective solution to removing these heavier types of coatings.
Creating Customized Solutions
Adding crushed glass blasting media to a combination of plastics and shot, or just combining the crushed glass with plastic blasting media, allows a customized solution for working with specific types of substrates.
The combination of hard and soft abrasive materials can even be used for the removal of rust and corrosion on parts and components.
Use According to Manufacturer’s Recommendations
Many types of combination blasting materials can be used at different PSI settings. Avoid using any blasting media at settings that are above or below the manufacturer’s recommendation to avoid damage to the substrate while still offering an effective stripping action.
It is possible to find reusable media that includes crushed glass. The manufacturer will stipulate how many cycles the media can be used before it must be replaced. Use over this level will not provide the effective removal of the paint or other material.
