A solar eclipse is a phenomenon that should be witnessed in person at least once in their lifetime. A solar eclipse is a celestial event that occurs when the moon moves between the Earth and the sun. The moon will either partially or totally block out the sun. In order to view a solar eclipse safely, you will need to shield the eyes with a pair of safe solar eclipse glasses.
Solar Eclipse
It is a special occasion to celebrate when a solar eclipse occurs. Every year there are approximately two eclipses of some type. There can only be a maximum of five solar eclipses in any given year. A year with five solar eclipses has only occurred 25 times in the past 5,000 years with the last occurrence in 1935.
Eclipse Glasses
Watching a solar eclipse with naked eyes is extremely dangerous. Eclipse watchers should by no means look directly at the sun during a solar eclipse. Doing so could permanently damage your eyes.
The only way to view an eclipse is to wear a pair of safe solar eclipse glasses to protect your eyes from the sun’s rays. Before putting on the eclipse glasses, inspect them to ensure there are no scratches or tears in the solar lens. Scratches or tears allow light to filter through the glasses and can cause eye damage.
Also, never attempt to look directly at the sun while wearing sunglasses. Sunglasses do not prevent the damaging light from the sun from harming your eyes. In addition, do not use smoked glass, x-ray film, welder’s glass, a polaroid filter, or exposed color film. None of these will protect your eyes.
Where to Find Safe Solar Eclipse Glasses
There are many places online that carry safe solar eclipse glasses. Solar eclipse glasses are easy to use, just wear them like typical glasses and some people wear them over their prescription glasses.
