Learn More About Student Housing Options for the New School Year

by | Jul 9, 2024 | Student Housing Center

As summer winds down and a new school year begins, college students begin thinking about their housing options. There are plenty of choices for student housing in Milwaukee. If you’re interested in off-campus student housing, here are some tips to help you find your new home away from home this school year.

Choose a Location

When you live off-campus, you lose the convenience of having everything you need nearby. However, there are plenty of student apartments not too far from campus. If this is your first year at the school and you’re not familiar with the area, do your research and drive around neighborhoods to get a feel for their safety and their proximity to the campus.

Even if you have a car, you don’t want to be so far away from campus because you’ll end up spending money unnecessarily on parking and gas. So, choose your location wisely.

Consider the Roommate Situation Carefully

Most students who live off-campus need to have a roommate or two to absorb some of the financial responsibility of leasing an off-campus apartment. When choosing a roommate, choose intentionally. Consider their schedules, and consider how well you guys get along. You will be living with this person for the duration of the lease, which is usually 12 months.

Also, no matter how well you know the individual you’re rooming with, always look for apartments that offer per-person contracts. You can have peace of mind knowing that your housing will never be affected if your roommate doesn’t pay their rent.
